Montreux jazz... Happiness is contagious, as is love... So, just be anyone for me....

Before I ran away on vacations, I went up to Montreaux for the jazz festival.
The tickets were for everlast, and a Kidd I never heard of before was opening for Everlast.

From the Kidd's concert - Bastian baker - the best was his utter and absolute delight to be playing in Montreux. I was sitting on the 1st table and his joy filled my heart up and I became happy being a witness to his dream. I was his audience at the greatest music fest in the world "Montreux!"

Then came everlast who sang his heart out, talked about love, broken hearts, rich people problems', walking on other people's shoes, making hard choices, life, addiction and the monsters who surely live under our beds...

He said a musician knew he had made something for himself when he got to play at Montreux jazz. I mentally added that if you were not a musician, you knew you had made something for yourself  when you got invited to go to Davos. Switzerland, benchmarking careers since 1947!

Well, then he played "anyone", which I didn't know and have kept in my mind since then!
Not much more can be asked from a love song...

There she was.... In shorts (not her best look) but still pretty cool.... 2 guitars, one piano, one bass and the room guillermina suggia nearly full!

She didn't bring the forgotten arm, very few !$&!@! Smilers but played plenty of oldies (4th July, lost in space included), and many of her new album and her new band project "the both"

Finished with red vines and deathly as she had done in Lisbon some years ago... And after clapping,  composing myself from the intensity of the songs, I stood up and ... walked home!
Making it all seem so simple...

A wonderful concert and a walk home.

Dear Chris,

I have waited many years for our first date, but had I known that i was meant to meet you in Montreux accompanied only by your guitars and a vynil record and I wouldn't mind the waiting so much!

Let's face it, it was even more perfect because it was just you, the guitars and the montreux jazz logo behind! I am not sure I would ever be ready for a fully pumped Soundgarden show and actually you seemed to be enjoying yourself much more as well. I am certain you are one of the favorite voices of my blonde brain cells and hearing you sing through the albums gave me an outstanding guided tour down memory lane...not just with temple of dog, but also with euphoria morning!

Plus you have the best cover ever of Billie Jean! Ever! So, sweetie.... no matter how many years go by... you rock! And you do it in really great style!

Life does have a soundtrack

No outro dia um dos meus colegas queixava-se que o seu filho adolescenre vivia colado ao seu i-pod, disse ele "As if life needs a sound track!"
Nao fui em defesa do filho - acredito que sendo adolescente ele travara as suas proprias batalhas com a entidade paternal - mas podia ter-lhe dito "Life does need a sound track!"


Eu, que sou dessa fantastica colheita de 80 e que tive um walkman, um diskman e que tambem levo um ipod para quase todos os sitios (e que nao era a adolescente mais tipica) posso confirmar que pelo menos a minha vida tem quase sempre um rotulo musical e tantas memorias musicais das boas...


Ha musicas e bandas que ouvi (ou ouco), que consigo associar a fases e momentos muito especificos e isso acrescenta uma complexity layer as memorias - que nao sao so feitas do que se disse, do que se fez, do que se sentia, do que se queria, do que ficou escrito, de cheiros, sabores ou texturas - que para mim e priceless!


GNR, Bandemonio, JBJ, REM, Ornatos violeta, PJ, Soundgarden, smashing pumpkins, divine comedy, JP simoes, Belle chasehotel, radiohead, michael jackson, madonna, guns and roses, audioslave, ben harper, moby, aimee man, cake, bach, jack white, leonard cohen, racontteurs, the cure, ivy, oasis, diana krall, katie melua, pink floid, counting crows, stravinsky, anoushka shankar, U2, caetano, adriana calcanhoto, marisa monte, joana, eddie vedder, jack johnson, pomplemouse, damien rice, lily allen, tchaikovsky, elvis costello, bob marley, gotan project, gainsbourg, lang lang, the eels, yan thiersen, django, all the crap i hear when i run, e mais umas quantas dezenas deles.... Todos tem/ tiveram o seu momento, and that just makes life more memorable....

Estar no mexico faz-me pensar nisto...
