Staff are advised that a demonstration is expected to take place against the holding of the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Meeting on Saturday 28 November 2009. The gathering is expected to start at 14:00 at Place Neuve, from where demonstrators will start marching at 14:30. The expected itinerary is as follows: Rue de la Corraterie - quai des Bergues - quai du Mont-Blanc - quai Wilson - rue de Lausanne - WTO - avenue de la Paix - chemin Eugène-Rigot - chemin de la Voie-Creuse - rue du Valais - rue de Montbrillant - parc des Cropettes.
According to the Geneva Police, 3'000 to 5'000 persons are expected to join this demonstration which, according to its organizers will be followed by "festive gatherings" at different locations in town.
Geneva Police warn of traffic disturbances which will inevitably be caused by the event. The Police do not rule out acts of damage to property or violence that could be carried out by small splinter groups along the route of the demonstration.
As similar events in the past have turned out to be of violent nature, the security office recommends that staff members avoid the areas of the gathering and the march on 28/11/2009. It is further recommended not to park any vehicles in the vicinity of the planned march or gathering.
